The summer in Northern Michigan is crisp and immediate; the echo of the trees at night, the coyotes, the coating of stars: summer. Returning to Japan will come all to soon. The penetrating sweat, the shrinking streets and horizons will pave the way for fall, for the bleak tide of winter. I welcome these things as I welcome the fresh possibilities, which can blossom out of them. The fresh possibilities of sound creation, of “noise,” of action in solitude.
